Juventus have suffered defeat at the hands of Benfica in Lisbon in a fairly entertaining game, with this the Bianconeri’s journey in the Europe’s elite competition is over. For the first time since 2013, Juve have failed to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Juventus didn’t start the game well, allowing Benfica a lot of possession and the Portuguese side made the most of it. Antonio Silva gave them the lead in the sixteenth minute. A couple of minutes later, Dusan Vlahovic would equalize for the Italian side. Benfica, in reply scored two quick goals inside the first half.

The second half started the same way as the first finished. Benfica would score another and extend their lead to three. Max Allegri decided to throw in young guns including Fabio Miretti, Matias Soule and Samuel Iling. These substitutions had a big impact on the game and gave Juve some hope. Arkadiusz Milik and Weston Mckennie’s goals brought Juventus back into the game. The Bianconeri pushed for the equalizer at the end but failed.
