Bologna’s historic qualification for the Champions League casts a shadow of uncertainty over the future of coach Thiago Motta.
Thiago Motta is reportedly set to take the helm at Juventus. The Italian-Brazilian coach’s impressive work this season, transforming Bologna into a top-four contender, has clearly caught the eye of the Bianconeri hierarchy.
Club CEO Claudio Fenucci speaking to Sky Italia (via Ilbianconero) said that only Thiago Motta knows what he will do, stating “Only Thiago knows what he’ll do, and we’ll all find out soon enough.”
“We’ll talk to him in the coming days and see what decision he makes,” Fenucci expressed the club’s desire to retain the Italian-Brazilian coach.

“He knows we want to keep working together because of what he’s brought to the team, not just in terms of playing style but also in managing and motivating the group. We’ll speak with him and communicate any news when we have it.”
This potential influx could be a boon for Juventus, who are looking to rebuild after a disappointing season. Players who have flourished under Motta’s system could seamlessly integrate into the Bianconeri setup, providing immediate impact.
Juventus has been reportedly interested in multiple Bologna players like Riccardo Calafiori, who reportedly verbally agreed to join the Bianconeri in the summer, and Joshua Zirkzee. The Bologna CEO then addressed what the future holds for their players.
“We’d like to maintain continuity and try to confirm as many players as possible.” Regarding Zirzkee’s future, he clarified:
“He has a special contract that gives him some control over certain decisions. Otherwise, we’re a solid club that doesn’t need to sell players to finance itself. We want to maintain the continuity of the sporting project.
“Planning is already underway. Sartori and Di Vaio are working to adequately strengthen the squad and make a good showing among the top 36 teams in Europe.
“We want to continue the path we started this season. Much will depend on the coach’s willingness, but the idea is to retain as many key players from this season as possible.”
Therefore, the future of Thiago Motta and Bologna will be decided in the coming weeks. The excitement for Champions League qualification is palpable, but the club will have to consider the coach’s ambitions and potential offers from other teams.
