Ice cold Bonucci leads Juve to victory

A brace by Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci led Juventus to victory against Lazio. It was a trademark Allegri win for the Bianconeri at the Olimpico on Saturday evening. Max Statman gives a quick breakdown and player ratings.

Juve’s first blow came after only 10 minutes, when Danilo got injured after a challenge with Hysaj. The Brazilian had to leave the field on a stretcher. Kulusevski came on and Juventus switched from a 3-5-2 system to 4-3-3, with Cuadrado and Pellegrini as fullbacks. Allegri’s influence was once again clear, with Juventus giving Lazio the ball and sitting deep. The Biancoceleste weren’t really able to create anything with the possesion. Juventus on the other hand, got more dangerous. Cataldi made a foul on Morata inside the box. The referee didn’t award a penalty at first, but after the VAR intervened, Juventus got it. Captain Bonucci stepped up and stayed calm. He smashed his penalty into the top right corner.

The second half was more of the same. Kulusevski forced a save out of Reina from a difficult angle. Bonucci put the ball just wide after a small scrimmage in Lazio’s box. Lazio’s biggest chance came when Acerbi put a cross towards Milinkovic-Savic, who headed it towards Muriqi, but the striker failed to put his head to it. Lazio gave Juventus the perfect oppurtunity to double their lead. Reina came out to intercept the ball, but Chiesa dribbled past the Spanish goalkeeper. Chiesa was then fouled by Reina on his way to the goal and Juve were rewarded another penalty.

Bonucci once again made no mistake from the penalty spot. Substitute Kean got 2 opportunities to make it 3-0 for Juve. First, Chiesa sent him towards Reina, but his shot wasn’t powerful enough. Then Kean launched himself from his own half, but Reina saved again.
