Giorgio Chiellini, former captain of Juventus and current player for Los Angeles FC, recently revealed in an interview with “Discord” an interesting behind-the-scenes story about his close call with Real Madrid in the transfer market.
Chiellini disclosed that he had been one step away from joining the Spanish giants, stating that “Davide Lippi, my agent, knows better than me because these things didn’t interest me much.”
While Chiellini would have enjoyed the opportunity to play for Real Madrid, he admits that he may not have been the right fit for Spanish football.
“I don’t think I am a player suitable for Spanish football. I would have ended up like Cannavaro and Samuel, who went to play in Spain and lasted only 2-3 years there,” he said.
Chiellini also shared that he would have been better suited for English football, but noted that “when you exceed 30 years old, it’s complicated to keep up with the type of game, especially since in those leagues, young players always replace you after 2-3 seasons.”
Ultimately, Chiellini is happy with the way his career has turned out, and expressed pride in the fact that he was able to write the history of a club like Juventus.
“To be able to write the history of a club like Juventus is not something that everyone can do,” he said.
