Former Inter president Massimo Moratti has spoken out against the cyclical desire to erase the memory of Calciopoli, a match-fixing scandal that rocked Italian football in 2006.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb on the sidelines of the presentation of Davide Steccanella’s book “InterOttanta,” Moratti was asked about the recent episode of Report that delved into the scandal once again.
“It seemed to me that there is an absolute willingness to bring back an old dream just to repeat it. Small lies as well, I don’t know if they are forgivable in life, but you can pretend nothing happened and move on,” Moratti responded.
He also expressed his frustration with attempts to equate Inter’s situation with Juventus’, stating, “when you behave normally and are accused by those who behave differently just to put everything together, it’s very annoying.”

Moratti went on to discuss the small lies he believes are perpetuated when discussing the scandal.
“How things are remembered, even if they are insignificant things. A total lack of class, a considerable vulgarity,” he stated.
When asked why he never pursued damages after everything that came out, Moratti admitted that he had not thought about it but perhaps should have been more aggressive.
