Luca Toni, the former Juventus striker, recently shared his thoughts with La Gazzetta dello Sport on the upcoming showdown between Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Osimhen ahead of Juventus clash against Napoli.
“Osimhen and Vlahovic are two true number nines,” Toni began. “They’re complete players who can score in many ways, and they’ve shown that recently. Osimhen, back from the African Cup of Nations, has already bagged five goals in three games. Dusan, on the other hand, has been the top scorer in 2024.”
“If I had to choose one as a pure bomber, I’d go with DV9 (Vlahovic),” Toni admitted. “He has no weak points in the penalty area. He can hurt you in any way. Vlahovic is more structured, but his heading ability is on par with the Nigerian. They’re equal in that aspect.”
Toni continued, acknowledging both players’ potential for improvement: “Both Victor and Dusan still have room to grow technically. For me, Vlahovic isn’t a finished reference point in the team’s play yet, although he might have a slight edge over his rival today. Osimhen is two years younger than Vlahovic, and they’re both young. They can definitely reach even higher levels.”

Toni’s comments add further excitement to tomorrow’s clash. The matchup between these two young strikers, both with the potential to become world-class, promises to be a thrilling encounter that could significantly impact the Serie A top four race.
Both Vlahovic and Osimhen are in top form, and tomorrow’s match could be the key to victory. Neither player has ever scored in a head-to-head encounter, and tomorrow’s match could be the first time for either, or perhaps even both.
The Nigerian boasts an impressive average of 11 goals in 15 appearances. He’s netted 5 goals in his last 3 games, including one against Barcelona.
Since returning from the African Cup of Nations, he’s only missed the Genoa match to rest, but hasn’t stopped scoring since, reaching his 60th Serie A goal with Napoli.
For Dušan Vlahović, he seems to have been reborn since the beginning of 2024, scoring 9 goals in 7 games, more than anyone else in Italy, even surpassing the league’s top scorer Lautaro Martinez.
