Juventus have ensured themselves of a spot in the Europa League quarter-finals. The Bianconeri managed to beat Freiburg without too much difficulties in Germany: 0-2 (0-3 on agg.)
Juventus started shaky against Freiburg. The Germans had their biggest chance of the first half after 22 minutes. Matthias Ginter headed a corner towards goal, but Wojciech Szczęsny made an excellent save and pushed it away. Michael Gregortisch’s shot in the follow-up was blocked by Gleison Bremer.
Just before the half hour mark, Juventus seemed to take the lead. Bremer hit the bar with a header and after Moise Kean touched the ball, it feel to Dušan Vlahović, who smashed it home. However, the Serbian striker was deemed offside by VAR, the correct decision. However, Juventus would still take the lead before the break. Kean was through on goal, but his effort was saved by Flekken’s feet. Eventually, the ball got to Federico Gatti, who shot on goal. It was cleared off the line, but Manuel Gulde had blocked it with his arm beforehand. Juventus were awarded a penalty and Gulde received his second yellow. Vlahović converted the penalty, but Flekken came close to saving it with his feet.
Even though they had a man less, Freiburg came close to a goal. They took Juventus’ goal on fire, but Szczesny kept the clean sheet with a great save. Apart from that, not a lot was happening in the second half. Juventus defended their lead well. Just before full-time, substitute Federico Chiesa hit the bar after a good dribble. Flekken managed to get a touch and deny the winger. However, he couldn’t save Chiesa’s neat shot shortly after.
