Grande Torino remembered: Juventus commemorates the loss of football icons in Superga crash

Today marks the 74th anniversary of the tragic Superga air disaster that claimed the lives of the entire Grande Torino football team, a date that will forever be remembered in Italian football history.
On 4 May 1949, the plane carrying the Torino squad crashed into the Basilica of Superga, killing all 31 people on board, including players, coaching staff, and journalists.
The team, which had won five consecutive Serie A titles and was widely considered to be one of the greatest football teams of all time, was on their way back from a friendly match against Benfica in Lisbon.
To this day, Juventus Football Club, Torino’s crosstown rivals, continues to honor the memory of the Grande Torino team.
