Juventus ended January on a poor note with a 2-0 defeat to Monza at the Allianz Stadium on Thursday.
It was the third game in a row without a win in Serie A, after a loss to Napoli and a draw with Atalanta, with 11 goals conceded in all those games.
After the match, Massimiliano Allegri said they had to get points to help them avoid relegation, which left Juventus fans wondering where the club was headed.
We are not going to talk about what Allegri said after the game, but we what happened in the Monza game where personal mistakes costed Juventus.

Don Lippi has tactically analysed the most important part of Juventus match against Monza, as found below:
1 — Juventus started the game off in a 4-1-4-1 buildup using Leandro Paredes as a ‘lone pivot’ and pushing Nicolo Fagioli and Adrien Rabiot high.
2 —Juventus dropped into a typical 5-3-2 shape in defense, but in essence Kostic on the left as a support for Danilo was weak, and centrally Paredes got dragged out of position often or wasnt proactive in chasing balls.
3 — Monza had a good 5-4-1 shape that kept their 6’s narrow and with that Rovella got tons of time without being pressed and their wingers occupied inside space to form a Box shape allowing them to keep good possession in middle.
4 — The mistake of Paredes and Gatti in second goal. Leandro Paredes laziness and Federico Gatti awareness costed Juventus, as it forced Gleison Bremer t try to make a late challenge, and he eventually got beaten.
5 — In the 4-1-4-1 shape used, Di Maria dropped often into right-back because de sciglio was struggling to progress. However, because of this eventually while Juventus build out well, in final 3rd there was nobody left to assist with final balls as De Sciglio was pretty poor in any aspect on ball.
6 — In second half Juventus started in a 3-4-1-2/3-4-3 shape in possesion, essentially playing Matias Soulé as a free number 10 to drift wide and hope to create space in centre that Di Maria can drop into and use. But It was still shambles because De sciglio offered zero support to overlap or underlap or play bad quality final balls.
7 — In a Final roll of dice, Allegri started inverting Iling-Junior to run inside and try stretching with De Sciglio coming on left with support from Di Maria. This reasonably generated few chances but wasnt enough.
