Multiple sources have confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt won’t renew his contract at Juventus unless the club lowers his release clause (€125M currently). Fans of the Bianconeri were asked, hypothetically speaking, if they would sell the Dutch defender and bring in Alessandro Bastoni. With just over 3000 votes, there’s a clear answer.
Talk about a contract extension for Matthijs de Ligt has been going on for twee weeks now, with a renewel getting closer. Most notably, the Dutchman’s release clause would be lowered, because otherwise De Ligt won’t renew. At the moment, his release clause is €125M, which could possibly go down to €70-80M.

Unsuprisingly, that doesn’t make the Juventus fanbase very happy. Many think a lower release clause would mean De Ligt leaves in the near future. Juventus aren’t the only team in Italy where the centre-back position is a hot topic. Rivals Inter will have to sell another big name this summer, with Alessandro Bastoni being the main contender. Max Statman were told by transfer expert Nicolò Schira that a bid of €60M could be enough. He also said that Bastoni ‘is not a Juve target’.
Still, it begs an interesting question. Would Juventus fans sell De Ligt now and bring in Bastoni? For almost 60 percent, it’s a no. A little over 40 percent like the idea.
In the comments, many Juventini said they aren’t against selling De Ligt, but that they wouldn’t replace him with Bastoni. Torino’s Bremer was a name suggested a few times, but the Brazilian born defender is close to joining Inter.
