At 21:00 local time on Thursday, Juventus will play host to Monza in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals after being humiliated by Napoli last week in Serie A.

Juventus’ eight-game league winning streak came to an end on Friday when they were defeated 5-1 by Napoli in the Serie A match that decided the league title battle.

Juventus will now attempt to recover against Monza on Thursday night after suffering their biggest defeat in any tournament for thirty years following their greatest run in years.

Juventus will attempt to win a number of competitions this year after being demoted from the Champions League to the Europa League, including the Coppa Italia.

The last time Juventus faced Monza was a 1-0 defeat in which saw Angel Di Maria sent off.

Raffaele Palladino, a former Juve winger, had just taken over as caretaker coach at Monza at the time, and the Lombardy club was at the bottom of the top tier in their first foray into the Italian elite.

Following their unlikely victory over the Old Lady, they have improved under Palladino, who is now permanently in command, from a start of only one point from six games to mid-table security as the season nears its midway point.

The Biancorossi moved 12 points clear of danger with their 3-2 victory over last-place Cremonese on Saturday. This is much more what their owners had in mind when they invested in a number of seasoned Serie A starters after earning promotion through the playoffs.

Team news and probable starting lineups

There appears to be light at the end of a dark tunnel for Juventus now that both Dusan Vlahovic and Juan Cuadrado have resumed full training, however, they are unlikely to make it for Monza.

Paul Pogba is nearing a comeback too, but will not feature just yet, while Leonardo Bonucci, Mattia De Sciglio and Kaio Jorge remain sidelines.

Monza, meanwhile, have Juventus loanee Nicolo Rovella absent through injury once again, while Dany Mota’s participation is also in doubt due to a muscular issue.
