Juventus have lost the Supercoppa 2-1 against Inter at San Siro. Weston McKennie gave Juventus the lead, while Lautaro Martinez equalized from the penalty spot. It seemed like the match was heading towards penalties, but Alexis Sanchez scored at the end of extra time. Max Statman gives you a quick breakdown and player ratings.
After hearing a live version of the Fratelli d’Italia, the Derby d’Italia could get started. Although Juventus weren’t afraid to press during the first minutes, Inter had, like expected, the upper hand. Lautaro Martinez got two big chances early on. First, the Argentinian striker was unable to get a touch on De Vrij’s header, which went inches wide. His volley from inside the box went wide a couple minutes later.
Inter wanted a penalty after Giorgio Chiellini tangled with Barella, but both the referee and VAR saw no foul. Juventus grew stronger. Bernardeschi made a great run past Perisic and delivered it to McKennie. The American’s attempt was blocked by Skriniar. Shortly after, Dejan Kulusevski took the ball of Brozovic. He gave it to Bernardeschi, who was floored by De Vrij. The contact was too light to give a penalty in the eyes of the referee. Bernardeschi arguably should have done better.
Morata finds McKennie
McKennie opened the score in the 25th minute. Morata’s delivery from the left side of the box was perfect for McKennie, who headed it in. Ten minutes later, Inter equalized. The referee pointed to the spot after De Sciglio clipped Dzeko’s heel. Lautaro made no mistake from and smashed it in.

The second half wasn’t quite as thrilling and fast paced as the first. Bernardeschi created danger early on. Rabiot gave a great cross across the box and Bernardeschi’s shot missed the target by inches. Then, Bernardeschi dribbled past three Interisti, but his shot went over. Even though he may not have scored, the Italian created plenty of danger.
Quick reaction Perin
Mattia Perin showed that he’s an excellent backup to Szczesny. Calhanoglu found Dumfries at the far post. The Dutchman beat Alex Sandro in the air, but Perin denied him with a quick reflex. Perin also had to make some less spectacular saves on a header by Lautaro and volley by Perisic. The latter caused Juve’s defence trouble in the first half and continued to do so.
It was all square when the clock hit 90 minutes, so the two sides went into extra-time. A corner by Calhanoglu created danger once again. Alexis Sanchez got his head to it this time, but it went just wide. The Chilean attacker gave Inter the winner at the very last seconds of extra time, after a mistake by Alex Sandro. He failed to get the ball away, Darmian got there before Chiellini and Alexis Sanchez scored from close range.
