Match Report and Player Ratings: Miretti’s first enough to overcome Fiorentina
Juventus were playing with their backs against the wall for most of the game, but came out victorious against Fiorentina thanks to Fabio Miretti’s first goal for the club: 0-1.
Fabiano Parisi misjugded a pass on Filip Kostić, which enabled the Serbian to get through on the wing. Kostić found Fabio Miretti in the middle, who managed to score his first goal for Juventus with a tidy finish at the near post.
After Miretti’s early opener, the match was pretty evenly matched. Nicolás González tested Wojeich Szczęsny twice, especially the second try was a challenge for Szczęsny, but the Pole was able to save twice. His biggest save came moments before half-time, when Fiorentina were putting Juventus on a lot of pressure. Cristiano Biraghi curled a free-kick on goal, but Szczęsny pushed the effort of La Viola’s captain away.
Fiorentina kept the pressure on in the second half. However, the home team struggled to create real chances. Juventus were stuck on their own half. Not that it mattered to Massimiliano Allegri. It was another classic display of the style of football he loves. The only difference compared to last year is that Juventus win these matches now.
Near the end of the game substitute Andrea Cambiaso came close to Juve’ second goal, but Pietro Terracciano kept it out. The result remained unchanged: 0-1.
