Head coach Xavi Hernandez of FC Barcelona has requested for Spanish international and Juventus FC forward Alvaro Morata during the winter transfer window. Morata gave his full approval to Barcelona but did not want to push him to exit his current employer out of respect for the club. Rumors of his transfer began to fade as Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri said during a press conference that Morata will stay for the rest of the season.
After news broke yesterday of Juventus making their first official offer to ACF Fiorentina for young Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, the Barcelona and Morata links started up again. Xavi is still pressing for Morata but both Barcelona and Juventus are waiting for the deal to be finalized to unlock the departure of Morata. Xavi has been requesting Morata for weeks during the winter transfer market and the Vlahovic deal to Juventus will surely allow Xavi’s request to be fulfilled.
Morata is currently on his second year of a two-year long loan from Atletico Madrid. He first joined Juventus during the 2014-2015 season from Real Madrid. He boasted a successful first term with the club winning two Scuddeto, a Coppa Italia trophy and even made it to the Champions League final. Morata’s last goal for Juventus could very well be the penalty he scored in the win against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
