Opinion: Juventus made the right choice when dealing for Danilo

Yesterday in Bergamo, when all seemed hopeless for Juventus when they were down 1-0 to Atalanta, it was a tifosi favourite, Danilo who came to the rescue, providing the perfect header from a Paulo Dybala corner kick in injury time, thus giving the Bianconeri an important point in their quest to secure a top four spot, and although a long shot, it also kept their hopes for a Scudetto alive.
After the game Juventus coach Max Allegri praised the player when he said “he scored a beautiful goal and played a fantastic match” something that Danilo has been doing a lot since joining Juventus from Manchester City in a swap deal which saw another fan favourite, Joao Cancelo go the other way. Ever since that deal was made, it has sparked plenty of debate amongst Juventini online, with some feeling Juventus have not had a proper Fullback who can provide offensive creativity since Cancelo’s departure.
While their feelings may be true, it also takes away from the fact of why the deal was made in the first place. And while Cancelo’s performances were sometimes outstanding, one has to admit it wasn’t always consistent and their could be reasons for this as Cancelo admitted in a recent press conference that he wasn’t always the most professional when playing for Juventus when he said “At Juventus I had a different way of playing, I wanted to just have fun, enjoy football. My difficulty settling in at the city (Turin) was my responsibility rather than the manager’s, it was my fault. Then I discovered a great desire to win, in life and in football. I’m happy, I did a lot to become the player I am today. Italy has been very important for my career, Inter and Juve are two great clubs.”This quote from Cancelo alone is very revealing and should be enough for any Juventini who was upset with the deal, to understand why a move away for the player was necessary in the first place. Since Danilo has arrived in Turin, he’s shown that he has a desire to want to play for the badge, as proven again yesterday when the first thing he did when scoring that crucial goal was kiss that beautiful logo on the kit.
