Paul Pogba, the Juventus midfielder, has been handed a four-year doping ban by the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal. This comes almost a year after he tested positive for Dhea, a substance known as the “youth hormone.”
The Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office had originally requested the same penalty, and their request was ultimately accepted. Pogba, who is nearly 31 years old, had maintained his innocence and claimed the Dhea intake was accidental. He also declined a plea bargain.
The court did not believe his defense and officially notified Juventus of the decision. The accusation, as reported by Repubblica (via GOAL) never accepted Pogba’s accidental intake claim.
Pogba and his legal team are appealing the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. They hope to have the ban overturned or at least reduced.
