Juventus have won their last match of 2021 2-0 against Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium. There were great perfomances by Bernardeschi and Szczęsny on Tuesday night. Because Atalanta dropped points against Genoa, the gap to the Champions League spots shrinks to only 4 points. Max Statman gives a quick breakdown and player ratings.
It wasn’t the most spectacular first half of the season, but what should be expected with both Rabiot and Bentancur in midfield. A match against the number last of the Serie A seems like the perfect oppurtunity to give some other players a chance, but Allegri thought otherwise.
Moise Kean got the biggest opportunities of all Juve players in the first half. First, De Ligt headed back a corner towards Kean, but the Italian striker missed the goal. Later Cuadrado delivered a great cross at the back post, but Kean hit the woodwork. The third time was the charm for Kean. Bernardeschi dribbled past his man and tried to curl it into the left corner, but Kean reacted quickly and headed it into the other side of the goal. Juve took the lead five minutes before halftime.
Super Szczęsny
Juve tried to extend their lead in the second half. Alex Sandro hit the side netting from a corner by Cuadrado, who’s crosses were on point. Then Cagliari got a massive chance after an attack on the right side of the pitch. Dalbert squandered a chance that was more difficult to miss than score. Cagliari got another big oppurtinity. João Pedro headed the ball towards Juve’s goal from close by, but Szczęsny, who has bounced back after a difficult start of the season, made an astonishing save.
