Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has given his final press conference before the Supercoppa against Juventus on Wednesday night. There was lots of attention for the Bianconeri. Inzaghi talked about Juve’s recent form, the title fight, Federico Chiesa and the Derby d’Italia from earlier this season.
Juventus are unbeaten for 8 games in a row after winning the 7 goal thriller on Sunday against Roma. Inzaghi was asked about his expectations for the match. “It’s a final; there are no favourites. I’ve taken part in this match both as a player and as a coach. We’re facing a team which is on form; last Sunday they made an incredible comeback to win in style. Juventus know all about playing in finals.”
Inter are on impressing form themselves, winning 9 of their last 10 matches. “We’ll give the best account of ourselves to give the fans some joy. The level of motivation will be key but it will, of course, come down to fine margins on the day.”
Clear favourites
Juventus were the ‘clear favourites’ to win the Scudetto when the season began, Inzaghi claims. Inter are now top of the table with a game in hand and are tipped to be the new favourites. “It’ll go down to the wire; Milan, Napoli, Atalanta and the now on-form Juventus are all contenders.”

Juve will miss Federico Chiesa, who’s out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, Juan Cuadrado and Matthijs de Ligt (both suspended) on Wednesday. “Max Allegri will know how to deal with said absentees. They’ll have Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini back; they’ll be competitive.” Like Inter, Inzaghi wishes Chiesa well. “I played with his father and Federico is a big part of the fabric of Italian football.”
The first clash between Juventus and Inter this season ended in 1-1. Inzaghi says the Nerazzuri thought the game was ‘done and dusted’ until the penalty was given. “It’s been months since that match; both teams have improved.” Inzaghi thinks that game was a ‘cagey encounter’. “You could tell both teams were playing catch-up in the league, both Inter and Juve underperformed.”
Inzaghi’s cup final record vs. Juve
Inzaghi beat Juventus twice in the Supercoppa as the coach of Lazio. First in 2017 (2-3), then in 2019 (1-3). Inzaghi’s Lazio also faced Juventus in the Coppa Italia final in 2017. The Bianconeri were victorious (2-0).
