While Juventus’ midfield has been subject to much criticism for a while now, the club has made some need adjustments this season. With the arrival of Manuel Locatelli in the summer and Denis Zakaria in the winter, the future is looking bright. Another light for the future is Nicolò Rovella who’s on loan at Genoa.

Rovella was bought in 2021 from the Genevan club for 18 million euros plus a maximum of 20 million in bonuses. He is to remain on loan until the end of the current season. The 20-year-old Italian has had a breakthrough season with 18 appearances in all competitions and four assists. Juventus tried to bring Rovella to the club in January, but Genoa said no.

Along with Locatelli, there is no doubt that Rovella and another midfielder on loan at Serie B club, Cremonese, Nicolò Fagioli will be the core Italian midfield for Juventus. For these three to play together, management needs to sort out the current midfielders, with Locatelli and Zakaria set to stay, but the likes of Aaron Ramsey (on loan at Rangers), Arthur Melo, Adrien Rabiot, and Weston McKennie could leave the club this summer. Juventus’ midfield next season could look completely different with the return of the young players and any possible departures.
