In a disappointing turn of events for Juventus, Sassuolo came out on top with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from substitute Gregoire Defrel.
Despite Juventus’ efforts to equalize, Andrea Consigli made a stunning save to deny Adrien Rabiot’s header and secure the win for Sassuolo.
Juventus had hoped to bounce back after their recent Serie A defeat to Lazio with a win over Sporting CP in the Europa League quarter-final.
However, Moise Kean, Mattia De Sciglio, Alex Sandro, and Kaio Jorge absence left the team struggling as the Bianconeri were forced to give 20-year-old Tommaso Barbieri his Serie A debut on the right flank.
Sassuolo, on the other hand, were looking to recover after their recent 2-1 loss to Verona. With Domenico Berardi and Mert Muldur injured, the team had a difficult task ahead of them.
However, they managed to secure the win thanks to their solid defense and some key saves from goalkeeper Consigli.
The game was a tight affair with both teams creating chances, but it was Sassuolo who eventually broke the deadlock when Nicolò Fagioli failed to clear a corner, allowing Defrel to score from 12 yards out.
Fagioli was subsequently substituted and was seen in tears on the bench, consoled by his teammates.
Despite Juventus’ efforts to equalize, Consigli made a spectacular save to deny Rabiot’s header from a corner, leaving Juventus empty-handed.
The defeat is Juventus’ second consecutive loss in Serie A, leaving them with much to do if they hope to finish the season strongly.
