Reports are doing round that Matthijs de Ligt is on his way out of Juventus this summer. The 22-year-old Dutch centre back is on radar for top clubs across Europe. The player’s contract expires in June 2024 and he has a release clause of around €150m. Given that the Dutch is the best young defender in the world right now, many clubs are ready to offer money to sign him next summer.

Mino Raiola in an interview recently made remarks about de Ligt’s future. “Matthijs de Ligt is now ready for a new step – he thinks that too”. The Dutch agent added “I think we all know which clubs to mention for Matthijs de Ligt as ‘next step’. We will see this summer. Premier League? It can be Barcelona too, or Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain…”.

So let’s explore, how the summer mercato could shape if de Ligt was sold. Here are the list of players the club could sign in that situation.

Manuel Akanji

Manuel Obafemi Akanji is a 26-year-old Swiss professional footballer who plays as a defender for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Switzerland national team. The players has been linked with the bianconeri as possible Matthijs replacement.

Paul Pogba

The Frenchman has been linked on and off with Juventus over so many years. The Man United midfielder contract expires in 2022. According to English media the player could be on his way to Juventus as free agent if contract extension talks fail with Man united. The money from transfer of de Ligt could be used to finance his massive wages. Despite other big clubs being in the race, Pogba has expressed his love for the Old lady many times.

Sergej Milinković-Savić

A more likely name that could play for Juventus next season is Savić. The 26-year-old Serbian who plays for Serie A club Lazio has been on the list of Juventus since a long time. The management likes the player alot. Moreover according to Italian media the deal could happen soon given Juventus raise the money required to fund his transfer from Lazio. The Rome based club would definitely have high demands when selling the player to their direct rivals and the money from de Ligt’s transfer could sponsor it.

Milinković-Savicʼs agent Kezman in an interview stated “With all due respect for Lazio, Sergej is a player for a great club of the future. I’m sure it will soon be time to live new dreams. I think Juve is still a great club and it is an honor for anyone to play for that club”.

Since the signing of his Serbian counterpart Dusan Vlahovic, the chances seem more likely for him to arrive.

Nikola Milenković

Nikola Milenković is a 24-year-old Serbian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back and right-back for Fiorentina and the Serbia national team. The player was in the news for being possible replacement for Matthijs de Ligt. According to CM Juventus could make an attempt to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina this summer.

Alessio Romagnoli

As reported by Nicolò Schira Alessio Romagnoli’s contract extension with ACMilan is in stand-by. Milan don’t want to offer more then €3M/year, but the captain currently earns 6M (5M + 1M as bonuses). He could leave as a free agent in summer. Juventus is interested in the player.

Gleison Bremer

Gleison Bremer Silva Nascimento, sometimes known as just Bremer, is a 24-year-old Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Italian club Torino. According to TuttoSport via AroundJuventus Juventus are also monitoring the Bremer situation, who is liked a lot by Allegri and was impressed by his performance during the Derby della Mole.

The management would be looking forward to strengthening the left back position and adding more quality players in summer whether de Ligt leaves or not. Despite the reports, the fans and the club hope to keep de Ligt. The Generational player is seen as future captain and renewing his contract would be a great achievement for the management. While what happens in the mercato is something to look out for, Max Statman would keep you updated with latest news.
