Davide Frattesi has opened up about his emotional connection to Juventus, revealing that his grandfather was a lifelong fan of the club and his grandmother was a big admirer of former Juve player Claudio Marchisio.
“When I think of Juventus, I think of my grandfather Carmine, who was a die-hard Juventus fan. For years, my grandmother Stefania made collages with my photos and those of Marchisio, telling me ‘You look just like him!'” said Frattesi.
Frattesi also spoke about his encounter with Marchisio during a Roma-Juventus match, where he asked for and received the player’s shirt.
“In one of my first call-ups to the first team with Roma, in a match against Juventus, I went to warm up and Claudio was there too. He was a lifelong idol, perhaps more so than my grandmother: I asked him for his shirt,” said Frattesi.

“He promised it to me after the game and he gave it to me. I didn’t know what to do with it. I thought, ‘What am I going to do with my own shirt?’ But he asked me for it. It was a great emotion: people of that human caliber, in football, are rarely encountered.”
Just to clarify, the interview with Davide Frattesi was originally published in April 2022. However, it has recently resurfaced due to Juventus’ reported interest in the midfielder.
It’s worth noting that Frattesi’s future in Italian football is still uncertain. Sassuolo, his current club, is reportedly asking for over €30m for the midfielder, with Inter Milan leading the race to sign him.
Juventus is said to be interested in signing him but hesitant to engage in a bidding war for the player. It remains to be seen where Frattesi will end up playing next season.
