Juventus saw a new player make his debut in their 1-0 defeat against Sassuolo on Sunday.
Tommaso Barbieri started the match as a forward, becoming the fifth player to start from the beginning for Juventus, born since 2001, after Fabio Miretti, Enzo Barrrenechea, Nicolo Fagioli and Matias Soulé in Serie A this season.
Barbieri played with great enthusiasm, even though the scoreline didn’t go in favor of his team. The young player played for 59 minutes before being substituted by Juan Cuadrado.
“An incredible emotion for me, to make my debut as a starter: I am very sorry, however, for the score of the game. I tried from the beginning to give my best, my teammates helped me a lot and complimented me, because they are really a great group,” he said.

He even confirmed that playing his first game in Serie A shows that the Juventus Next Gen project has paid off.
“My debut is confirmation of the goodness of the Next Gen project,” he said.
Juventus Next Gen project is a youth academy program aimed at identifying and developing young talents to represent the club in the future.
The program was launched in 2018 and is designed to provide a pathway for promising young players to progress from the academy to the first team.
Barbieri’s debut as a starter is a testament to the project’s commitment to providing young players with the necessary tools to succeed at the highest level.
The Next Gen project has produced several talented players, including Nicolo Fagioli, who also started the game against Sassuolo.
