Weston McKennie spoke to DAZN after Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Roma, admitting that his future at the club is uncertain but that he wants to stay.
“We can’t be happy because we needed a win tonight,” McKennie said. “There was more hard work than fun today. We worked as a team, for each other. We had several chances, but we didn’t score. Maybe we deserved to win, we wanted to win.”
McKennie, who has one year left on his contract, has been linked with a move away from Juventus in recent months. However, he insists that he is happy at the club and wants to stay.
“I still have a year of contract, my agent is talking to the director, I would like to stay,” McKennie said. “For the team, we have the same goals as in recent years, to win the league title, to bring Juve back to being protagonists in the Champions League because this is the club’s history.”
McKennie also spoke about the difference between the Juventus team that played Roma in the first leg of the season and the one that played on Sunday.
“In the first part it was evident how everyone was fighting on every ball, we arrived a bit exhausted in the last part of the season,” McKennie said. “There was a bit of tiredness.”
Despite the draw, Juventus remain in fourth place in Serie A and are still in the race for a Champions League spot. McKennie believes that the team can achieve its goals if they continue to work hard.
“We have to concentrate on next Sunday’s game which is fundamental,” McKennie said. “We are very close to what was the main goal at the beginning of the season, and then we can think about the Italian Cup final that we still have to play for.”
