Juventus winger nearing €15M transfer to Marseille

Juventus and Olympique Marseille are reportedly finalizing a deal that would see American winger Timothy Weah return to Ligue 1 this summer, with the transfer expected to be worth €15 million.

The 25-year-old joined Juventus in the summer of 2023 after impressing in France with Paris Saint-Germain and Lille.

Brought in as a long-term replacement for Juan Cuadrado, Weah initially struggled to cement a spot under Massimiliano Allegri.

Despite earning more minutes under Thiago Motta and then adapting to a wingback role with Igor Tudor, Weah has recently fallen out of favor following the return of Andrea Cambiaso from injury and the emergence of youngster Alberto Costa.

Juventus had attempted to offload Weah and teammate Samuel Mbangula to Nottingham Forest, but both players turned down the Premier League side.

Weah’s agent publicly criticized the club’s handling of the situation, especially after the duo was dropped from the matchday squad ahead of a crucial FIFA Club World Cup clash against Manchester City, allegedly to pressure them into leaving.

Despite the failed Forest move, Weah’s departure from Turin still looks likely, Marseille have made the most concrete offer.

Talks between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, with a fee of €15 million close to being agreed.

If finalized, Weah would reunite with former Juve teammate Adrien Rabiot, who joined Marseille last summer. He would also get the chance to play in the Champions League, with OM finishing second in Ligue 1 last season.
