Juventus fans were excited yesterday by reports of Douglas Luiz completing his medical in the USA. This coincides with his presence on international duty with Brazil for the Copa America.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are nearing completion of a swap deal involving Samuel Illing-Junior and Weston McKennie heading to Aston Villa.
Both Douglas Luiz and his agent are finalizing personal terms with Juventus. Both parties are eager to expedite the deal, with only minor details remaining to be ironed out.
The transfer fee with Aston Villa has reportedly been agreed upon.
Samuel Illing-Junior: Back to England
Samuel Illing-Junior is enthusiastic about a return to England with Aston Villa. He has already held discussions with Villa coach Unai Emery. Primarily used as a backup at Juventus this season, a move to Aston Villa could offer him more playing time to flourish.
The English winger made 24 Serie A appearances, though only starting 11% of those games. He managed one goal and two assists, mostly coming on as a substitute behind Filip Kostić in Juventus’ 3-5-2 formation.
Weston McKennie: Hesitant Move
Weston McKennie is less enthusiastic about returning to England following a successful season at Juventus. This comes after a disappointing loan spell at Leeds United in the Premier League. His poor performance that season led to him missing Juventus’ pre-season tour.
While McKennie has expressed a desire to stay, his contract expires at the end of next season. Negotiations between him and Juventus haven’t been positive. This move could resolve the situation.
McKennie is currently working on his exit strategy with Juventus before finalizing the move to Aston Villa.
