Federico Gatti had recently been rumoured to leave Juventus. This has been due to Premier League interest for the centre back. Newcastle United where the main club interested in signing Gatti for 25 to 30 million euros. Now however circumstances have changed, and he will now likely stay in Turin.
Why?
Alfredo Pedulla has exclusively said that Thiago Motta wants to Federico Gatti at Juventus because he is a versatile player. He believes that in his system he could utilize Gatti as a centre back and full back. He believes this due to the skill Gatti has shown when used as a right sided centre back. Motta also did this at Bologna with Austrian defender, Stefan Posch.
Motta is also a fan of Gatti determination and passion he shows at Juventus. He thinks that these qualities are useful for his dressing room which is why he would like Gatti to stay. Motta see the pride Gatti shows for the Juventus shirt which also led to this decision.
What will happen to his replacements.
Juventus have had two centre backs lined up to sign using the Gatti funds. The first is Riccardo Calafiori who has gained interest from many clubs in the world mainly due to his performances at the Euros. Juventus have wanted him since before the Euros due to his unique playing style where he is very capable on ball (read more here)
Juventus will likely still pursue Riccardo Calafiori as they look to bring in a new centre back. His deal could be financed by the sale of Dutch centre back Dean Huijsen. Huijsen has interest from German and Premier league clubs and Paris Saint Germain. Juventus will get 30-40 million sale from Huijsen sale and re-invest that plus 10-20 million into Calafiori.
Juventus second choice to replace Gatti from was Jean-Claire Todibo from Nice. Todibo was offered to Juventus when they were negotiating for Khepren Thuram. Juventus have turned him down as they are not interested in Todibo so it probably wouldn’t have happened even if Gatti was sold.
