Serbia’s Filip Kostic has been ruled out of the rest of Euro 2024 after suffering a serious knee injury in their opening Group C match against England.
Kostic sustained the injury in a collision with Trent Alexander-Arnold late in the first half. He was immediately replaced by Filip Mladenovic and left the field in tears.
According to Telegraf (via Ilbianconero), Kostic will undergo an MRI scan in the coming hours to determine the exact extent of the injury. However, it is already confirmed that he will not play any further part in the tournament.
Kostic’s injury is a major blow for Serbia, who were already without Dusan Tadic for the tournament. The winger is a key player for both club and country, and his absence will be a huge loss.
Serbia will now have to rely on the likes of Filip Mladenovic, Nemanja Radonjic, and Andrija Zivkovic to provide width and creativity in attack.
Kostic’s injury could also have implications for his future at Juventus. The 31-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, and this injury could make him a less attractive proposition for potential suitors.
It remains to be seen whether Kostic will be able to return to full fitness before the start of the next season. However, this injury is a significant setback for the player, both personally and professionally.
