Recently Juventus has done everything but confirm the signing of Khepren Thuram. However, I believe that he is unneeded for the future of Juventus. Especially with the fee he would cost Juventus at a whooping 65 million euros. Instead, Giuntoli and his staff for look for an option that is cheaper and play the same role.
Our current midfield
If Juventus are set to sign Khepren Thuram our current midfield depth would have 5 players. This is assuming that both Adrien Rabiot and Weston Mckennie leave. Our five midfielders would be Manuel Locatelli, Nicolo Fagioli, Fabio Miretti and the new signings of Douglas Luiz and Khepren Thuram.
It is believed that Motta would like to set Juventus up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. In this the staring midfield would likely be Douglas Luiz and Manuel Locatelli. In the 3 of attacking midfield if all players stay it will be Federico Chiesa, Kenan Yildiz and Mattias Soule. This would leave the depth of Thuram, Fagioli and Miretti. This would leave the depth for the front 3 very low as with only Timothy Weah and Fillip Kostic.
This is where Koopmeiners would be useful as he would push Kenan Yildiz to join Fabio Miretti on the bench as attacking midfielders. However, he isn’t worth his price when Juventus still need to complete the signing of Riccardo Calafiori and a right sided full back. These areas could be prioritised as Juventus can sign a cheaper option in that role.
Lazar Samardzic
Lazar Samardzic is another player who could come to Juventus and play the rotation attacking midfielder. He was linked to join Juventus however these have died down as the club looked towards of Koopmeiners. But Samardzic could be the cheaper option as Juventus wouldn’t have any competition. Samardzic would likely only cost around 25 million euros and could be crucial if Juventus want to keep Dean Huijsen as he could be sold to raise funds for Koopmeiners.
Samardzic is 22 and this could mean he stays at Juventus for longer as he matches the age profile of the rest of our young midfield. This is with Nicolo Fagioli who is a year older than him, Fabio Miretti who is 20 and Joseph Nonge who is a year younger than that at 19. This shows why Samardzic is the better option for the future of Juventus.
