Heorhij Sudakov, the standout player for Shakhtar Donetsk and the Ukrainian National Team, spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the clash against Italy, addressing transfer rumors involving Juventus.
Discussing the challenges of long travels amid the war in Ukraine, Sudakov acknowledged, “It’s tough and difficult, up to 8 hours by bus, but there’s no alternative, and we commit to doing well anyway. Like against Barça, motivations are sky-high, helping us overcome fatigue and produce results.”
On Juventus expressing interest in him, Sudakov expressed, “Yes, I know, it makes me happy. I follow them on TikTok… But it’s the clubs that choose players, not me. As a kid, I liked watching Sheva, Ibra, and Kaká. Talent, creativity, and personality.”
When asked about his admiration for Italian players, Sudakov highlighted, “The midfielders: Zaniolo, Barella, Locatelli. Italy is very strong, the reigning European champion. I have great respect. But we will fight to win and do our best. Beating Italy and qualifying for the Euro is our dream. After peace, of course.”
Expressing his interest in Italian football, Sudakov mentioned, “I watch Milan and Inter matches in Europe, also Juventus. But also Roma, Napoli, the strongest ones always interest me. I like watching football on TV, clubs that play well, are interesting, attractive, and possess the ball.”
Sudakov praised his former coach, Roberto De Zerbi, stating, “He’s very good, it was a pleasure to work with him. He’s creative, has new ideas, changed our football; we called him a little genius. But he has proven he is a big genius. In six months in Donetsk, he developed a lot of knowledge in us, how to move in spaces, control the ball, and I received a lot from him.”
