Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci could be leaving the club and joining Union Berlin. After spending 12 seasons with the Bianconeri, the 1987-born player may continue his career in the Bundesliga.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Union Berlin has shown interest in the Italian defender, and Bonucci has indicated his openness to the move. Both parties are currently in talks to determine if the transfer can be finalized.
Considering the complicated situation Bonucci has faced at Juventus, Berlin could be a fresh start for him. Last season, due to his advanced age, Bonucci did not receive as much playing time under coach Massimiliano Allegri.
In Serie A, Europa League, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League combined, the 31-year-old defender made 26 appearances and scored two goals.
Although these numbers remain significant, they are lower than his previous seasons, during which he also contributed more actively in terms of scoring.
If the transfer to Union Berlin goes through, it could provide Bonucci with a new challenge and the opportunity to rejuvenate his career.
The move to the Bundesliga would also bring new experiences and potentially a different tactical environment for the experienced defender.
Leonardo Bonucci is now out of Juventus project and the club has already removed him from the first team. He is now due to start a new era in the Bundesliga should both clubs find agreements.
